I Relay
because my Mum's best friend Mary has battled cancer and won twice! When she
was receiving treatment I was working in the local hospital so I used to go
down and sit with her through her chemotherapy sessions. She did not deserve
to be going through that and I do not believe anyone should have to. I also
Relay for my Nana, my Father in Law, Uncle Kev, Lyn and Keith who are all
survivors. I hope one day no one else will hear the words' you have cancer'.
I am working towards that day.

I Relay because I need to think that I am
making some sort of difference in the fight against cancer. I have lost my
father, both grandfathers, an aunt, an uncle, my sister-in-law, and most
recently my dog to this horrible disease. Just yesterday, I received news
that another uncle has been given two months to live after being recently
diagnosed with lung cancer. He lost his wife to the same disease three years
ago. My friend Cecile, for whom I Relay this year, is the
only person in my circle who
has survived the dreaded “C” word.
Hopefully, through my small efforts to raise money and awareness, we will
one day live in a world that is cancer-free and where everyone will be a
‘survivor’.

I Relay because my family has had the misfortune of being affected by
cancer several times. My brother had leukemia when we were kids. Thankfully,
he is now a survivor. My cousin lost his battle several years ago. My
grandmother lost her battle too. Two of my uncles have also lost the battle
(one recently) and my father is currently fighting his own battle.
Ironically, most of the battles in my family started after I started
working with the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life is very close to my
heart and has helped me feel like I can make a difference so that others
won't have to fight this dreadful battle someday.
